What truly brings us Peace?

You may notice that what we thought kept us safe begins to
dissolve around us. The relationships we thought were safe
begin to change. The house we thought was safe and secure
begins to fall apart or experience decay. The city we thought
was safe begins to grow and experience violence. The quiet we
thought we had created begins to be invaded with noise and
disturbance. Whatever we thought was safe begins to feel unsafe
and threatened.

What we usually attempt to do in these cases is to invest in
other things that seem to be safe. We shift our reliance of
safety to another form - another city, another relationship -
which before long also begins to dissolve.

It is not that there is no safety; it is rather that these "things"
don't provide any safety. Our Safety comes from God - God is
the real Source of our safety. When this is realized, when we stand
"naked" before God without what we consider "safe", we will
experience the Gift of Real Safety.

The same is true of support. We keep things that we believe will
support us. We create life support systems without realizing that
this is not where the real support comes from. Everything we think
supports us sooner or later changes and falls away. What we keep
to support us sooner or later buries us in its accumulation.

We try to prop ourselves up by keeping what we think we will need.
We become surrounded by what no longer works, without really
experiencing the Support that comes from God, our true Source of Support.

When we begin to question where the real support comes from, we are
able to let go of all our accumulated props and crutches to allow
what is most supportive for us.

What we create does not bring us peace or safety, but in asking
God to be the Source of Certainty, of Safety, we will find that
is what truly brings us Peace.

For your consideration ,
